چکیده

Introduction Ultrasound is a non-invasive and bedside accessible method of cardiac function monitoring. Cardiac echocardiography has several limitations due to difficulties to obtain an acceptable acoustic window in critical care settings. Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) velocity time integral (VTI) can be measured in most critical care patient and is an useful tool for this purpose. Calculations of cardiac output needing aortic valve area are strongly dependent on skills and observers [1]. We hypothesize that twofold LVOT-VTI is an accurate calculation of stroke volume index (SVI).

عملکرد سیستولی قلب در بیماران سیروزی کاندید پیوند کبد در مقایسه با گروه کنترل

Background: We assessed different systolic cardiac indices to describe left and right ventricular dysfunction in cirrhotic patients before liver transplantation. Methods: In this case-control study, eighty-one consecutive individuals with the confirmed hepatic cirrhosis and candidate for liver transplantation in the Imam Khomeini Hospital between March 2008 and March 2010 were selected. T...

The Effects of Hemodynamic Changes on Pulse Wave Velocity in Cardiothoracic Surgical Patients

The effect of blood pressure on pulse wave velocity (PWV) is well established. However, PWV variability with acute hemodynamic changes has not been examined in the clinical setting. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of hemodynamic changes on PWV in patients who undergo cardiothoracic surgery. Using data from 25 patients, we determined blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR)...

Stenotic Aortic Valve Area

I n aortic stenosis, the aortic valve area (AVA) is intuitively the most appealing measure of severity because it is supposed to be (largely) independent of stroke volume and left ventricular pump function and reflects most closely “stenosis.” Calculation of the AVA by the continuity equation is routinely performed in echocardiography (1), using 3 measurements: the velocity-time integral of the...

Relation of Dimensionless Index to Long-Term Outcome in Aortic Stenosis With Preserved LVEF.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the role of the dimensionless index (DI) in a registry of patients with aortic stenosis (AS) to objectively establish prognostic DI thresholds for various degrees of AS severity. BACKGROUND DI is a classic marker of severity in AS that does not rely on the estimation of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) cross-sectional area. Although DI e...
